Detailed itinerary of the 11 Days Uganda Rwanda Gorilla Safari

Day 1: Pick up from Entebbe airport

You will be picked up from Entebbe international airport by your guide who will welcome you for the safari and you will be driven to the hotel in Entebbe for check in.

Day 2: Drive to Zziwa Rhino sanctuary and transfer to Murchison falls  

After having breakfast early at the hotel in Entebbe, you will start the drive to Murchison falls national with a stop at Zziwa Rhino sanctuary where you will engage in rhino trekking which takes about 2-3 hours and the activity will start with a briefing about the Rhinos by the ranger guides who will join you during the search for the rhinos.

You will have lunch after the rhino trek at Zziwa rhino sanctuary and you will continue the journey to Murchison falls national park for the top of the falls viewing experience during which you will enjoy up-close views of the Murchison falls and after this you will be driven to the lodge for check in as you prepare to have your dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Morning game drive and boat cruise 

You will have breakfast and later head for an early morning game drive in Murchison falls national park and you will explore the savannah plains in search of wildlife species in the park such as giraffes, elephants, warthogs, hyenas, lions, buffalos, waterbucks, topi, Uganda Kob, hartebeests among others. After the game drive, you will return to the lodge for your lunch.

After having lunch, you will engage in a boat ride to the bottom of the falls where you will look out for wildlife species by the shore like hippos, buffaloes, elephants, Nile crocodiles and also a variety of bird species and you will be driven back to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Transfer to Kibale National Park 

You will have a morning breakfast at the lodge in Murchison falls national park and prepare for the transfer to Kibale national park with a stop for en route lunch in Hoima town and you will enjoy views of western Uganda along the way and proceed to the lodge in Kibale park for check in and dinner and overnight stay. 

Day 5: Chimpanzee tracking and Bigodi nature walk

After your breakfast, you will go to the Kanyanchu headquarters to begin your guided chimpanzee trek in Kibale national park. You will have a briefing before starting the search for the chimpanzees and also see other primates while in Kibale forest like black and white colobus monkeys, baboons, vervet monkey and many more. 

You will get more information about the tree species and other attractions in Kibale forest during the chimpanzee trek and on finding the chimpanzees you will spend 1 hour with them and later return to the park headquarters. You will set out for a guided walk to the Bigodi area after the chimpanzee trek and later return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 6: Drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park and afternoon boat cruise

Your early morning breakfast will be served at the lodge in Kibale national park and you will embark on a transfer to Queen Elizabeth national park for about 3 hours with an en route visit of the beautiful crater lakes. You will be driven to the lodge for check in and also to have lunch.

After having lunch, you will engage in an afternoon boat ride on the Kazinga Channel and during the boat ride, you will see many wildlife species drinking at the water banks like many hippos and elephants as well as buffalos and Nile crocodiles. You will return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay after the boat ride.

Day 7: Game drive and transfer to Bwindi National Park

After your breakfast, you will engage in a morning game drive through the Ishasha sector which is best known for tree climbing lions of Queen Elizabeth national park. You will encounter other wildlife species during the game drive and see elephants, lions, leopards among others.

Your guide will drive you to the lodge in Bwindi national park after the game drive ahead of your dinner and overnight stay.

Day 8: Gorilla trekking experience 

You will start the day with breakfast and transfer to the Bwindi park headquarters for briefing on gorilla trekking around 7:00am and with the ranger guides, you will set off for the search of mountain gorillas. 

You will enjoy a trek through different trails and follow the steep terrains in search of the gorillas in Bwindi forest which you will spend 1 hour with and record videos and take pictures with the gorillas and after this you will return to the briefing point and meet your guide for the transfer back to the lodge to relax and for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 9: Transfer to Volcanoes national park

After breakfast at the lodge in Bwindi national park, you will start the journey to Volcanoes national park. You will cross to Rwanda via Cyanika border and proceed to the lodge to have lunch.

You will also have an evening cultural tour at the Iby’iwacu village where you will get to know more and experience the Rwandese culture and traditional dance; visit the kraals among other exciting experiences and later return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay 

Day 10: Golden Monkey tracking and transfer to Lake Kivu

Your breakfast will be served at the lodge ahead of briefing on golden monkey trekking at the Volcanoes national park headquarters. You will search for the golden monkeys for about 3 to 5 hours and explore the natural habitat, encounter other primates like colobus monkeys and spend 1 hour upon finding the golden monkeys.

After the golden monkey trek in Volcanoes national park, you will transfer to Lake Kivu where you will enjoy a boat ride and enjoy beautiful views around the lake and you will be driven to the hotel for check in.

Day 11: Drive to Kigali 

After breakfast at the hotel, you will drive to Kigali where you will have lunch and your guide will drop you off at Kigali international airport which will bring 11 Days Uganda Rwanda Gorilla Safari to an end.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

220 Volts/AC50Hz. Sockets are UK style, 3 pin square plugs. Power is from the UMEME in the city/major towns and generator with inverter back up in the Safari Lodges and Camps.

CURRENCY:

Foreign currency must be changed at the Bank, Bureau de Change, and Hotel/Safari lodge/Camp/Resort.   Major Credit Cards, Master card, Visa, American Express, are usually accepted throughout the country.  Where credit cards are accepted, the payment will normally be recorded in US$ regardless of the card’s default currency.

CLOTHING:

Dress is mainly informal and should be comfortable as well as practical. Something warm should be brought along for early morning and evenings. Safari clothes are available from hotels/lodges/camps.

BAGGAGE:

Where possible, travel light. Baggage space on safari is limited to medium suitcase or soft bag per person plus reasonable amount of hand luggage. There is 15 Kilogram per person limit on all flights to the wildlife sanctuaries. Excess luggage must be stored in your arrival hotel.

WATER:

You will find many different of opinion of what is safe and what is not. We recommend for peace of mind, to drink local Bottled Mineral water. It is important to drink plenty of water especially during the hotter months. We would recommend that guests drink at least 2 to 3 liters of water per day to limit the effects of dehydration. 

HEALTH;

East Africa is a safe and secure destination; however, it is a good idea to take a few precautions.  Kindly consult your GP or local doctor at least 6 weeks before you travel, with regards:

Malaria prophylactics. East Africa is a known malaria area and preventive measures are essential. You are advised to take one of the recommended anti-malarial drugs.  Be sure to wear long sleeved shorts and trousers after sunset and spray the exposed parts of your body with a mosquito repellent spray

Remember to protect yourself from direct sun rays with sunscreen cream or safari hat.

Please be careful when photographing public buildings, airports, bridges, the national flag and people in uniform.  Ensure that you have sought permission before photographing local people and their villages.  If in doubt, please check with your guide.
