7 Days Uganda and Rwanda Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Pick up and Transfer to Kibale national park

Your safari will start with pick up from Entebbe by your guide who will welcome you for the safari. After a short briefing you will proceed to Kibale national park “the primate capital of the world” which is home to chimpanzees in Uganda. You will enjoy views of the tea plantations and the country side as you drive through western Uganda where the national park is found.

You will also have a crater lakes tour on this day as you visit the town of Fort Portal where you will also have lunch. After the tour of the crater lakes you will be driven to the lodge in Kibale national park for check in and your dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: chimpanzee trekking and drive to Queen Elizabeth national park 

After having an early breakfast at the lodge, you will proceed to the Kanyanchu park headquarters for chimpanzee trekking briefing. You will be divided in groups to begin your search for the chimpanzees in Kibale forest where you will encounter other primates like black and white colobus monkeys, red tailed monkeys and many others. You will see many bird and butterfly species as well and you will spend 1 hour with the chimpanzees and return to the park headquarters.

You will have lunch after the chimpanzee trek and continue your safari with a drive to Queen Elizabeth national park where you will arrive in time for a game drive where you will enjoy seeing wildlife species and later dinner and overnight. 

Day 3: Drive to Bwindi national park

Your guide will take you on a morning game drive around Queen Elizabeth national park and see wildlife species like elephants, buffalos, hippos, antelopes, warthogs among others and drive through the ishasha sector on the way to Bwindi national park where you will have dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Gorilla trekking

On this day, you will have the exciting gorilla trekking experience in Bwindi national park after an early breakfast at the lodge. You will go to the Bwindi park headquarters where you will have a briefing on gorilla trekking and also be assigned ranger guides who will go with you during the search for the gorillas in Bwindi forest. 

You will spend 1 hour with the gorillas in Bwindi national park and return to the park headquarters where your guide will be waiting to take you back to the lodge. You will also have an option of a Batwa cultural experience after the gorilla trek.

Day 5 Drive to Volcanoes national park

You will start the journey from Bwindi national park after breakfast and after crossing the border to Rwanda, your guide will take you to Volcanoes national park to relax and enjoy the beautiful views of the park and prepare for dinner and overnight stay at the lodge in Volcanoes park.

Day 6: Golden monkey trekking

After an early breakfast at the lodge in Volcanoes national park, you will have a briefing at the Kinigi park headquarters where you will also be allocated ranger guides and start the search for the golden monkeys which you will spend 1 hour with. 

You will also encounter other primates during this experience and later return to the lodge to relax and prepare for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 7: Drive to Kigali

You will start the journey to Kigali after breakfast at the lodge in Volcanoes national park and your guide will drop you off at Kigali international airport or your hotel in Kigali which will bring the tour to an end.

GENERAL INFORMATION 7 DAYS UGANDA AND RWANDA SAFARI

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

On this 7 Days Uganda and Rwanda Safari, all visitors to Uganda must have a valid passport with at least 4 consecutive blanks pages.  Any applicable visa and/or relevant documentation are the responsibility of the traveler.  For further information on Visa requirements visitors are advised to contact their nearest Uganda Embassy or Consulate. 220 Volts/AC50Hz. Sockets are UK style, 3 pin square plugs. Power is from the UMEME in the city/major towns and generator with inverter back up in the Safari Lodges and Camps.

CURRENCY:

Foreign currency must be changed at the Bank, Bureau de Change, and Hotel/Safari lodge/Camp/Resort.   Major Credit Cards, Master card, Visa, American Express, are usually accepted throughout the country.  Where credit cards are accepted, the payment will normally be recorded in US$ regardless of the card’s default currency.

CLOTHING:

Dress is mainly informal and should be comfortable as well as practical. Something warm should be brought along for early morning and evenings. Safari clothes are available from hotels/lodges/camps.

BAGGAGE:

Where possible, travel light. Baggage space on safari is limited to medium suitcase or soft bag per person plus reasonable amount of hand luggage. There is 15 Kilogram per person limit on all flights to the wildlife sanctuaries. Excess luggage must be stored in your arrival hotel.

WATER:

You will find many different of opinion of what is safe and what is not. We recommend for peace of mind, to drink local Bottled Mineral water. It is important to drink plenty of water especially during the hotter months. We would recommend that guests drink at least 2 to 3 liters of water per day to limit the effects of dehydration. 

HEALTH;

East Africa is a safe and secure destination; however, it is a good idea to take a few precautions.  Kindly consult your GP or local doctor at least 6 weeks before you travel, with regards:

Malaria prophylactics. East Africa is a known malaria area and preventive measures are essential. You are advised to take one of the recommended anti-malarial drugs.  Be sure to wear long sleeved shorts and trousers after sunset and spray the exposed parts of your body with a mosquito repellent spray

Remember to protect yourself from direct sun rays with sunscreen cream or safari hat.

As a guideline and dependent on how happy you are, we would suggest the following:

The General Hotel/Lodge/Camp Staff – Approximately U$ 10.00 per person per day

Driver Guides – Approximately US$ 15.00 to US$ 20.00 per person per day

Please be careful when photographing public buildings, airports, bridges, the national flag and people in uniform.  Ensure that you have sought permission before photographing local people and their villages.  If in doubt, please check with your guide.
