Best Time To Travel:
The ideal time to take this 13-day Primates & Wildlife Luxury Safari is during the dry seasons, which run from June to September and December to February. These months provide the best conditions for gorilla trekking in Bwindi and Volcanoes National Park, as the trails are less muddy and visibility in the forest is clearer. Chimpanzee tracking in Kibale is also more rewarding since the paths are drier and easier to follow, while game drives in Murchison Falls and Queen Elizabeth National Parks are more productive because animals gather around water sources, making them easier to spot. The boat cruises on the Nile and Kazinga Channel are especially enjoyable in this period, offering excellent views of hippos, crocodiles, elephants, and water birds. The cultural encounters, like visiting the Batwa or Iby’wachu communities, are also more comfortable with less chance of heavy rains disrupting the experience. Overall, the dry seasons give you the most reliable conditions to enjoy every activity in the itinerary.
How To Get There:
You will begin your safari at Entebbe International Airport, Uganda’s main entry point. From Entebbe to Murchison Falls National Park is about 305 kilometers, taking roughly 5 to 6 hours by road with a stop at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary along the way. From Murchison, the transfer to Kibale National Park covers around 320 kilometers and takes 6 to 7 hours, passing through rolling countryside and tea plantations.
The drive from Kibale to Queen Elizabeth National Park is shorter, about 150 kilometers and takes around 3 hours. From Queen Elizabeth, you will continue to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, a journey of about 220 to 250 kilometers, depending on the sector, which takes 5 to 6 hours by road through scenic highlands.
After your gorilla trek in Bwindi, you cross into Rwanda and head to Volcanoes National Park, which is about 150 kilometers away and takes 4 hours by road, including border formalities. Finally, from Volcanoes to Kigali City, it is about 115 kilometers, taking 2 to 3 hours to reach Kigali International Airport for your departure.
