Detailed Itinerary of the 5 Days Bwindi & Dian Fossey Hike
Day 1: Pickup from Kigali and Transfer to Bwindi national park
You will be picked up from Kigali international airport on arrival and your guide will welcome you for the safari. After a short briefing with your guide, you will start the journey to Bwindi national park which is located in south western Uganda.
You will spend the 1st night and have dinner and the lodge in Bwindi national park.
Day 2: Gorilla trekking in Bwindi
After an early breakfast at the lodge in Bwindi national park, you will proceed to the park headquarters where you will have a briefing on gorilla trekking with the park officials. You will go with your packed lunches for the gorilla trek.
You will search for the gorillas in the Bwindi forest accompanied by ranger guides as you follow different trails. Upon finding the gorillas, you will spend 1 hour with them and enjoy taking photos and recording videos of them. After the gorilla trek, you will return to the lodge for diner and overnight stay or opt for a Batwa cultural tour.
Day 3: Transfer to Volcanoes national park
You will start the day with breakfast at the lodge in Bwindi national park and your guide will take you on a drive to Volcanoes national park in north western Rwanda which is also home to the mountain gorillas of Rwanda. You will proceed to the lodge where you will check in and spend the night.
Day 4: Dian Fossey Trekking – Karisoke
Breakfast will be served at the lodge in Volcanoes national park and you will go to the park headquarters for a briefing on the Dian Fossey hike which will take about 6 to 7 hours with your ranger guides.
The hike takes place between Mount Karisimbi and Mount Bisoke and you will also hike through forests and enjoy views of Volcanoes national park. You will visit the Karisoke research center where Dian Fossey was buried. After the hike, you will return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 5: Transfer to Kigali and Departure
You will have breakfast at the lodge in Volcanoes national park ahead of your 2 hour drive to Kigali city where you will engage in a short city tour and visit places like the Kigali genocide memorial center and also visit the local restaurants for a lunch break and after lunch your guide will drop you off at the airport or hotel which will bring the tour to an end.
