Best Time to Go for the Luxury Africa Safari And Gorilla Trekking Vacation:
The best time to enjoy this luxury Africa safari and gorilla trekking vacation depends on the experience you want most. Gorilla trekking in Bwindi is a year round activity, although the most comfortable months are June to September and December to February when the forest trails are drier and the views clearer. These seasons offer the easiest trekking conditions and a better chance of spending your hour with the gorillas without heavy rain.
The safari section in Tanzania and Kenya follows a different rhythm. June to early July is perfect for witnessing the dramatic Grumeti River crossings in the Western Serengeti, when huge herds of wildebeest and zebra push through crocodile filled waters. The wider migration continues through July to October, making this period ideal for unforgettable wildlife sightings across the Serengeti and the Masai Mara. Amboseli is at its most photogenic during the dry season when elephants gather in large numbers and Mount Kilimanjaro stands clear against the sky.
Combining these destinations during the mid year dry season gives you the best of both worlds. You enjoy comfortable and rewarding gorilla trekking followed by exceptional big game viewing at the very peak of East Africa’s wildlife calendar.
How To Get There:
Your adventure begins with an international flight into Kigali International Airport, where you are welcomed and driven to your hotel. The road transfer from Kigali to Bwindi passes through scenic highlands and the Katuna border, making the journey part of the experience as you transition into Uganda’s lush gorilla country.
After trekking, you return to Kigali for your flight to Kilimanjaro International Airport. On arrival, a short road transfer brings you to your lodge in Arusha. The next morning you fly from Arusha Airport to Seronera Airstrip in the Serengeti, landing right inside the park and avoiding long drives. Moving onward to Ngorongoro is done by road, giving you wide open views of the highlands before descending into the crater.
The transfer from Ngorongoro to Kenya takes you across the Namanga border, where your Kenyan driver takes over and continues the journey into Amboseli National Park. Travel from Amboseli to Nairobi follows a direct road route that offers a look at everyday life along the savannah.
Your flight to the Masai Mara begins from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport and brings you straight to the Mara airstrip closest to your lodge. At the end of the trip you fly back to Nairobi and connect by road to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your departure.
