Best Time To Travel:

The dry seasons, which span June to September and December to February, are the ideal times to visit Uganda and Rwanda. Because there is less rain and better weather during these months, it is easier to see wildlife because animals congregate around water sources. Additionally, the gorilla and chimpanzee trekking trails are easier to access and less muddy. Clear sky also increase the likelihood of excellent photos and a more comfortable journey.

How To Get There:

Your journey begins with an arrival at Kigali International Airport, located in Kanombe, just a short 20-minute drive from the city center. From here, your driver will transfer you to your hotel in Kigali.

On Day 2, you’ll travel from Kigali to Volcanoes National Park, a scenic 2.5 to 3-hour drive northwest through Rwanda’s lush countryside and rolling hills. The route is fully paved and offers stunning views of terraced farms and volcanic peaks.

Day 4 takes you from Volcanoes National Park to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in Uganda’s Rushaga sector. This cross-border drive via Cyanika or Katuna border post takes about 4 to 5 hours, depending on border clearance, and offers panoramic views of the Virunga Mountains and rural highlands.

On Day 7, your return from Bwindi to Kigali International Airport will take roughly 4 to 5 hours by road, again crossing back into Rwanda. Optional stops, like Lake Bunyonyi, provide a scenic break and a chance for lunch before continuing to Kigali for your flight.

What Can You Combine With a Luxury Double Gorilla Trekking Tour in Uganda and Rwanda?

A double gorilla trekking tour can easily be extended with other unforgettable experiences across Uganda, Rwanda, and beyond. Before or after your gorilla encounters, consider tracking chimpanzees in Kibale Forest or Nyungwe National Park for a deeper dive into Africa’s primate world. You can also explore Uganda’s scenic savannah parks like Queen Elizabeth, Murchison Falls, or Lake Mburo, or head to Rwanda’s Akagera National Park for a classic Big Five safari.

For something different, go white-water rafting on the Nile in Jinja, take a boat cruise on the tranquil waters of Lake Bunyonyi, or set out to track golden monkeys in the Virunga Mountains. If your trip allows, you can even include a wildlife safari in Tanzania’s Serengeti or Ngorongoro Crater to witness the Great Migration or unwind afterward with beach time on the shores of Lake Kivu, Lake Victoria, or the islands of Zanzibar.
