7 Days Luxury Double Gorilla Trekking Tour In Uganda and Rwanda

Day 1: Arrival at Kigali International Airport and Transfer to your Luxury Hotel in Kigali

On arrival at Kigali airport in Kanombe, you will be picked by your driver to begin your trip. He will transfer you to your hotel for dinner and overnight. They will brief you about your upcoming activities.

Day 2: Kigali City tour and Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

After breakfast, your day kicks off with a guided city tour beginning at the Kigali Genocide Memorial in Gisozi. The memorial offers a powerful and emotional experience as you learn about Rwanda’s tragic past through exhibits, survivor stories, photos, and videos. From there, you’ll continue to the Caplaki Crafts Village where you can browse and purchase local handmade souvenirs and traditional art pieces. After enjoying lunch in the city, you’ll set off on a scenic drive to Volcanoes National Park, arriving in the evening for dinner and an overnight stay..

Day 3: Gorilla Trekking and Iby’wachu Cultural Experience

After breakfast, you’ll head to the park headquarters where you’ll receive a detailed briefing on gorilla trekking guidelines and protocols. From there, you’ll set off into the forest to begin tracking the mountain gorillas. Once you locate a gorilla family, you’ll spend an unforgettable hour observing their behavior in their natural environment. In the afternoon, you can choose to unwind at the lodge or take a short excursion to the Iby’wachu Cultural Village for an engaging local experience.

Day 4: Golden Monkey Tracking and Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

After an early breakfast, you’ll return to the park headquarters for your golden monkey tracking experience. These rare primates are native to the high-altitude forests of the Albertine Rift and are typically seen in sizable, active groups. Thanks to ongoing habituation efforts, you’ll be able to observe them from a close distance. The entire trek usually lasts between three to four hours. After the activity, you’ll have lunch back at your lodge before setting off for Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, specifically the Rushaga sector. You’ll arrive in the evening, just in time to check in, enjoy dinner, and settle in for the night.

Day 5: Gorilla Trekking (Normal)

This morning, you’ll rise early for breakfast before your guide drives you to the park headquarters, bringing along your packed lunch. By 7:30 am, you’ll attend a briefing on gorilla trekking guidelines, then set off into the mist-covered forest with a team of ranger guides. The trek can last anywhere from a few hours to most of the day, depending on where the gorilla families are located. Once you encounter them, you’ll have one unforgettable hour to quietly observe their behavior and interactions. Be sure to carry enough drinking water, a hat, sunglasses, a rain jacket, and a camera with no flash to fully enjoy the experience.

Day 6: Relaxation Day in Bwindi

After intensive days of trekking, today will be a relaxed day at the lodge with no scheduled major activity. 

Depending on your interests, you may take a short nature walk around the lodge, enjoy birding, interact with the local community or opt to do the Gorilla habituation Experience or a second standard gorilla trek.

Day 7: Transfer back to Kigali International Airport

Today you’ll enjoy a relaxed morning at the lodge, taking your time before check-out. When you’re ready, your driver will begin the unhurried journey back to Kigali. Depending on your flight schedule, you may stop at Lake Bunyonyi for a scenic break perfect for lunch, a bit of rest, and some memorable photos. You’ll then continue to Kigali, arriving in time for lunch and eventually heading to the airport for check-in, bringing your trip to a smooth and scenic close.
